Build a test set from dispatch decisions

Choose scenarios that represent both work you want and boundaries customers misunderstand. Include a standard household repair, a supported premium brand, an out-of-area request and a commercial-equipment request if your company serves residential equipment only. Keep the examples fictional and free of customer addresses or identifying details. Write the appliance, brand when relevant, general area and service requirement clearly. This lets you assess relevance rather than whether a broad question happens to produce your name.

Keep branded and unbranded questions separate. Asking whether your company repairs a brand checks how the company is described. Asking who repairs that brand in the area checks discovery among alternatives. These are different observations and should not share one unexplained score. Save the exact questions and the factual capability reference used to evaluate them. When your business changes its services, update the reference and date the change so future comparisons do not judge new answers against old rules.

Record claims and sources separately

For each answer, record the platform, date, query, location context, businesses named and links displayed. Extract concrete claims: supported appliance, brand authorization, warranty acceptance, coverage, operating hours and availability. Mark each as supported, contradicted, unclear or not stated after comparing it with current business facts. A favourable description without evidence is not automatically false; an accurate name does not make every attached service claim true.

Open the cited pages and inspect the actual supporting text. A directory homepage may identify the company but say nothing about the promised same-day service. A brand service page may establish experience but not authorization. Store a short note explaining the mismatch and the source URL. If the platform shows no source for a claim, record that limitation rather than guessing where it came from. This keeps the eventual correction brief focused on evidence you can inspect and information you can responsibly change.

Turn the audit into a correction queue

Prioritize errors that can produce a wasted booking: wrong territory, unsupported equipment, incorrect warranty arrangements or an inaccurate telephone number. Next address descriptions that conceal valuable services you actually offer. Give each item an owner, affected page or profile, proposed correction and review date. An update request to an outside directory is a different task from a website edit, so track completion separately. Retain unresolved items when the source cannot be established.

Repeat the original scenarios after the information has been updated and allow for the fact that answers can differ between runs. Keep old observations rather than replacing them with the most flattering screenshot. Report the practical result as completed factual fixes, remaining errors and patterns in comparable samples. Alongside that record, review whether unsuitable inquiries decrease. This is a useful operational assessment even if a particular AI answer remains unchanged or your company is not included in every recommendation.

Questions and answers

How many appliance and brand combinations should I test?

Start with a set small enough to inspect carefully, selected from the work that matters to the business. Include your main appliance services, an important brand distinction, a territory boundary and a service you exclude. For a small operation, a dozen well-chosen scenarios can be a practical starting worksheet, not a statistical sample of all customers. Expand when a finding raises a specific question, such as whether an error affects every branch or only one brand. Preserve the original group so you can make consistent comparisons. Testing hundreds of combinations is less useful if nobody opens the cited pages or turns incorrect descriptions into an assigned correction.

What should I do if an AI answer names us but links to another repair company?

Save the exact answer, displayed business name and destination URL before changing anything. Check whether the mistake concerns a similar trading name, a former business, a branch or an unrelated provider. Review your own public name, website address and telephone details, then inspect any cited directory entry. Correct mismatches in sources you control and request edits from relevant listing owners. Use the platform's feedback route where available to report the specific wrong association. Keep this as an identity error in the audit rather than counting it as a successful mention. Test the branded question again later, while recognizing that you may not be able to identify every source used to produce the response.

Does one incorrect answer prove our website caused the mistake?

No. An answer is evidence of what that platform returned in that context, not proof of a particular cause. Inspect the cited sources and compare them with your current pages. If your website clearly says something inaccurate, fix that factual problem. If the website is correct but a directory is outdated, address the directory. If all visible sources are accurate, retain the error and report it without inventing a hidden ranking explanation. Separate the observation, verified evidence and working hypothesis in your notes. That distinction prevents unnecessary rewrites and makes it easier to see whether later changes correspond with better descriptions across comparable scenarios.

What should an appliance repair AI audit report actually deliver?

It should contain the tested questions, business facts used for comparison, dated answers or captures, source URLs and a list of specific findings. Separate discovery from accuracy: missing from an unbranded shortlist differs from being incorrectly described as accepting warranty work. Each actionable item should identify the incorrect or missing fact, its business consequence, the source to investigate, the responsible person and the proposed next check. Include what remains unknown. A dashboard number by itself cannot tell your dispatcher what to fix. The report should finish with a manageable correction queue and a repeatable review method, while keeping booked-repair results separate from observed AI mentions.
