Start with how a customer might choose your business
Choose one service and write two different questions. The first asks for a suitable provider without naming your business; the second asks about your company's actual offer. For example, a training provider might test a search for practical instruction for a particular audience, then check whether its own program is described correctly. The first question concerns discovery, while the second concerns accuracy after the customer already knows the name.
Save the exact questions, answers, dates and source links. Read the surrounding context rather than searching only for the business name. Is the company recommended for the right audience and service? Is the answer describing something no longer offered? Does a linked page support the statement? These simple checks give you a concrete starting point. A favorable answer to a question that contains your name should not be presented as proof that unfamiliar customers will discover the business.
Improve the business explanation you control
Review the main service page as though the reader has never heard of the business. Explain the problem addressed, who the service suits, what is included and how the engagement begins. Add evidence that can be checked, such as relevant experience, current qualifications or an authorized example of work. Avoid broad labels that leave readers unsure whether you sell a product, provide a service or offer training.
Compare key facts with relevant public profiles and directories. Correct confirmed contradictions in contact details, scope and availability, while keeping useful context in each description. You do not need identical prose everywhere. Prioritize sources customers encounter and any pages cited in the inaccurate answer. If the origin of a claim is not visible, mark it unknown. Improving accurate public information is a concrete action; claiming to know a hidden platform decision without evidence is not.
Evaluate AI marketing offers by their actual deliverables
Ask a provider to show the questions it will test, the records it will keep and the changes it may recommend. A credible scope distinguishes assessment, content work, technical fixes and follow-up review. It should explain which assets you control and what requires your approval. Avoid treating a proprietary score as meaningful until the provider explains its denominator, method and limitations.
Google states that its AI search features do not require special optimizations beyond established SEO foundations. That does not mean every AI product works identically, but it is a reason to question blanket claims about a mandatory new file or magic markup. Choose work that also helps a real customer understand the business. After implementation, check the public result and repeat the original questions later. Keep mentions and citations separate from identified inquiries so the assessment does not turn uncertain visibility into invented sales results.
Questions and answers
What is the difference between AI SEO and using AI to write website content?
AI SEO concerns how a business or its information appears in AI-powered search and recommendation experiences. Using AI to draft copy is a production method, and it does not establish that the resulting page is useful, accurate or visible. You can investigate recommendations without generating any new text, and you can publish AI-assisted writing without improving the information customers need. Begin with the actual gap: an unclear offer, an inaccurate description or a page that cannot be accessed. If drafting tools help produce a revision, a knowledgeable person still needs to verify the facts and the answer quality. The finished content should solve the customer's question regardless of which tools were used to prepare it.
What can I check myself before paying for an AI visibility service?
Choose a small set of realistic customer questions, including at least one that does not name your company. Record the answers and inspect the links, then compare the business descriptions with your actual services, audience and location or delivery model. Check your own important pages and profiles for confirmed errors. Note the date and context so a later review is comparable. This will not reveal every platform's internal process, but it gives you concrete questions to bring to a supplier. Ask the supplier what additional evidence or implementation it will provide beyond those checks. A service should offer a clear method and useful work, not simply reproduce a screenshot and attach a large score to it.
Can a company guarantee that AI will recommend my small business?
A provider can commit to defined work, such as an assessment, corrected profiles or improved service pages. It cannot responsibly promise that every platform will recommend your business for a particular question. Answers depend on context and may change, and a favorable sample does not establish a permanent position. Ask what the guarantee actually covers, how results are measured and which conditions could invalidate it. Google explicitly says that meeting its requirements does not guarantee indexing or serving. Keep the distinction between a deliverable and a platform outcome clear when comparing offers. The useful question is whether the proposed work addresses an evidenced problem and improves information that prospective customers can inspect.
If AI answers the question without sending a website visit, how do we measure value?
Track what you can observe without filling the gaps with assumptions. Keep sampled mentions and citations in the visibility record, identifiable referral visits in analytics, and source information reported by actual customers in the inquiry record. Ask customers how they found you when that fits the normal intake process, but allow an unknown answer. A person may see an AI recommendation and contact the business another way, so referral traffic will not capture every journey. That limitation does not justify treating every mention as a lead. Review the measures together, explain where attribution is incomplete and use them to guide improvements. Only associate a confirmed business outcome with a source when the available evidence supports it.
